Data Sources & Methodology
Postcode Validation
Postcodes are validated in real time via the postcodes.io API, which provides regional classification and country data used for surcharge detection.
Courier Pricing
Delivery costs are drawn from benchmark pricing matrices representing typical UK courier rates across 3 weight bands and 3 basket-value tiers. These are static estimates, not live quotes.
Surcharge Rules
Five surcharge categories — remote area (£4.50), Scottish Highlands (£8.95), Saturday delivery (£5.95), Northern Ireland (£3.50), and oversized (£6.50) — are applied based on postcode prefix matching.
Savings Calculation
Annual savings are estimated by comparing the cheapest option to the average cost across all couriers, then projecting over 52 weekly deliveries. Subscription discounts apply 15% off, capped at £2.00 per order.
All calculations are deterministic and transparent. No hidden algorithms or dynamic pricing adjustments are applied. For exact pricing, check with the courier directly.

Advanced Topics
Deep dives for advanced users
When courier base rates are similar, postcode and service-level surcharges dominate total price. Segment results by basket/weight to avoid optimizing only one order type.
With a 15% discount capped at £2.00, a £7.99/month delivery pass breaks even at roughly 4 orders per month. Use the subscription toggle plus annual savings figure to calculate your personal threshold.
Combining two "Small" orders into one "Medium" shipment may cost less than two separate deliveries. Run both scenarios to quantify net savings, factoring in higher basket values that some couriers ship free above £50.
